September 17, 2025 marks the culmination of a vision born in Middle Tennessee in 2016: a volunteer-driven mission to put the U.S. Constitution in the hands of every 8th grader in America. What began as a handful of patriots distributing pocket Constitutions in middle Tennessee near Nashville—through faith, forging relationships, and private generosity—into a nationwide classroom celebration reaching all 50 states.
From Middle Tennessee to Coast-to-Coast
In the fall of 2016, a small group of concerned citizens in Middle Tennessee, alarmed by declining civic literacy, decided to act. Operating solely on private donations and powered by volunteer hours, they ordered their first batch of pocket Constitutions—and knocked on school doors. That grassroots spark ignited a national movement. Each September 17th, Constitution Day, volunteers from Texas to New York, California to Maine, have rallied in classrooms to celebrate our Founding Document.
A Volunteer Mission With No Government Strings
The 917 Society proudly refuses federal or state funding. Even though our mission is part of Federal Mandate 108-447, our independence ensures we remain true to the Constitution we champion. Instead, we rely on the generosity of patriotic citizens—families, businesses, and grassroots donors—who believe civic education is the bedrock of our republic. It costs just $25 to sponsor one classroom, providing each 8th grader with a durable pocket Constitution and a day of discovery.
Celebrating Constitution Day in Every 8th-Grade Classroom
On September 17, thousands of 8th graders don’t simply hear about the Constitution—they live it. Volunteers lead engaging lessons on separation of powers, the Bill of Rights, and the path from 1776 to 1789. Students participate in:
Interactive games and knowledge quizzes that challenge them to locate clauses and understand amendments.
Short video series that bring the Founding Fathers to life and explain why our Constitution remains “the most remarkable document in human history.”
Essay contests and debates, where young patriots defend free speech, religious liberty, and due process.
Community resolutions—guided by free templates—to commemorate Constitution Day in local governments, schools, and churches.
All these resources—lesson plans, games, quizzes, and videos—are available year-round on our website, free for teachers and students.
Steady Growth, Lasting Impact
2024: Celebrated in every one of the 50 states, surpassing one million 8th graders.
As we look to 2025, our goal is not just nationwide presence but deeper engagement—doubling the number of students reached, strengthening teacher training, and forging partnerships with homeschool cooperatives, public and private schools.
