Two weeks. That's all that stands between right now and one of the most important days on the civic education calendar. If you're a teacher, here's your Constitution Day readiness checklist — and everything you still have time to do.

Step 1: Order your pocket Constitutions today.

The 917 Society distributes free pocket Constitutions to 8th-grade classrooms across all 50 states. Step 2: Choose one anchor activity.

You don't need an elaborate unit. You need one strong activity that gets students talking, thinking, and engaging. A few options that work well for 8th graders:

- The Constitutional Debate — Pick a current issue (free speech, voting rights, privacy) and have students argue both sides using the actual text of the Constitution.

- Amendment Walk — Print each amendment on a card, post them around the room, and have students walk from station to station deciding which ones matter most to their daily lives.

- Preamble Rewrite — Have students rewrite the Preamble in their own words, then share with the class.
